“If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it” isn’t bad advice, really, but I am sure that it is the source of a lot of really bad writing. As far as I can tell, there are three kinds of people who will take this advice to heart:
- People who want to read about how great they actually are
- Fan fiction writers
- Economic forecasters
“If there is a book that your family, friends, or fans want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it,” is the kind of advice that I would like to read. So, of course, I wrote it.
